Spent much of yesterday working on Play2D. I still don’t have a great deal to show for all the hours I have put in but I am happy with the progress I am making.
I replied to the email I got from my Australia contact asking for a little bit more information about what Fi and I would be doing out there. It sounds really promising and i’m hopeful Adelaide is where Fi and I will end up going come August / September next year.
As promised, Fi took me out for a lovely meal last night. She secretly booked a table for 19:30pm at Sergio’s, which is where Fi and I first got together at a payday party. I remember as if it was yesterday – February 23rd 2006. The meal was great but getting to the restaurant was another matter. I phoned our usual taxi company at 19:10pm but it was constantly engaged (bloody lazy Bristol students) so I asked Nancy if she knew of any other good companies. She gave me number of a company she had used before (which doesn’t seem to even have a name!). I phoned them and they struggled to grasp where I wanted picking up from (I had to spell it about 3 times). They said it would be about 10 mins. Fi (who, by the way, looked stunning) and I went downstairs and waited by the side of the road for the cab. 10 minutes came and no sign of the cab so I phoned them. In broken English they said he was on his way. I phoned Sergio’s to ask them if they would hold our table which they kindly said they would. 5 mins later – no cab. I phoned again – “Oh, he’s about 1 minute away”. No cab 10 minutes later. By this point we were 15 minutes late for our reservation and so I phoned again, or at least I thought I did. I accidently phoned the restaurant and laid into this poor Italian women. I got a little flustered once I realised and hung up! Shit. Now I thought Sergio’s would realise that it was us who had phoned them and wouldn’t hold our table. Fiona decided to take over the phoning (she is very good at being firm over the phone). We were promised that the taxi was on its way and that it was late because it had picked up another fare! 5 minutes later and still no cab so Fiona phoned again. This time the woman hung up on Fi! We phoned again (by now it was 20:00pm – 30 minutes past our reservation) but the taxi did finally turn up. They then had the cheek to charge us £6 for what should have been about a £4.50 fare. Unbelievable!
Fortunately Sergio’s kept our table and the rest of the evening was great. I had mussels marinara to start with and Fiona had tiger prawns. I then had a fillet of kangaroo with redcurrant jus. It looked exactly like a fillet of beef but tasted very much like turkey. Very odd but very nice.
I have to go to work tomorrow so Fi and I are heading off to Torquay this afternoon. Fiona should finish early so I hope we’ll be back at my place by about 17:00pm. I think we’ll go for a little swim and then grab some takeout.
I have booked an appointment to see my GP on Monday about this lump in my neck as it has really started to worry me, simply because it hasn’t gone away. I really hope it is nothing. Ho hum, at least it’s a sunny day!
