I had great fun with the boys last night at poker and not just because I won some money!
Last night was only the second time I’ve played poker in my life. Derek, Tim and Nick have been quite keen to setup a regular poker game but it hasn’t really materialised. The last time we played was probably back in July!
Derek held the match at his and five of us (me, Derek, Nick, Tim and Jason) played (there were supposed to be nine). Anit was too hungover from the intern’s vallette, Dougie was working and I’m not sure about Brett and Bjorn.
It was really fun though. We had some beers and pizza and played a couple of hours of Texas hold ‘em with a 20c big blind (we don’t really play for the money!). It was a $10 buy-in but I ended up having to put down another $5 as I made some amateur mistakes at the start. I had my moment of glory as I took pretty much all of Tim’s winnings when I beat his straight (with a better straight!). I finished the evening up about $10 so with the pizza I was about even. Great fun. I might have to see if I can drum up some interest in a regular poker evening with friends when I get back to the UK.
