Fi and I are finally making some progress on the house.
We’ve both been on annual leave since Thursday and have been tackling the master and spare bedroom. As so much major renovation work is being done downstairs (more on that later) Fi and I are attempting to decorate the upstairs by ourselves. Fi chose the colour scheme for our bedroom (‘Natural Hessian‘ with a ‘Serpentine’ feature wall behind the head of the bed) and I chose the scheme for the spare double bedroom (‘Totally Nutmeg’ with ‘Intense Truffle‘ as a feature wall). I have to be honest: I’ve (a) never seen a pink nutmeg and (b) my inspiration came from a photo in a Dulux magazine.
As is becoming the norm with our house – decorating the rooms wasn’t simply a case of pulling out a paintbrush. First we had to have new power sockets fitted (most rooms had just a single one… where would we both charge our iPhones?) and then we had to have the upstairs lighting circuit re-wired. After that was done, I had to buy a job-lot of Polyfilla to make good all the enormous holes left in the walls by the electrician. The plus-side of Polyfilla was that I had to buy a power-sander (any excuse to buy a power tool is a good one in my eyes!).
Once the electrics were sorted, we then had to dismantle the biggest, ugliest and oldest wardrobe in the universe (there was one in each room). I was going to count the number of screws we removed but I just couldn’t be arsed.
Fi had never done any decorating before and so, I think, initially found the experience really enjoyable. That quickly disappeared after undercoating and glossing all the woodwork in both rooms! We started last Thursday and (apart from needing to touch-up the edges) we finished painting the walls, woodwork and radiators today. Awesome. All that’s needed now is to build the two wardrobes we bought from IKEA (see yesterdays post for more details) by the end of today and then we can get the carpet fitted (it’s arriving tomorrow!).
