House “Progress”

I’m getting slightly worried now.

Fi and I are going to be living in the house from Saturday (that’s six days from now). I need to start moving stuff into the house in the next few days (although, to be honest, I think we are going to have to store things for a few weeks).

Why am I telling you this? Well, the house is in an absolute state. The builders have been really hard at work but every time I visit the place it seems like it’s in a worse state than ever!

Currently, there is no boiler or electricity. Downstairs lighting? Forget it. Phone line? Nope, can’t do that either I’m afraid. This is bad. Bad, bad, bad.

The good news is that the garage is almost ready for skimming. By almost I mean that once the hole at the front of the house has been filled in from underneath the tarpaulin and the window fitted we’ll be good to go! The first fix electrics is done, the conduit for my electrical goodness is finished and the plumbing essentials are in place. A new suspended timber floor and ceiling has also been fitted. Here are a few pictures (these were taken before Friday when they removed the garage door):

The lounge and dining room have also had their first fix completed by the electrician although the holes for the downlights in the ceiling make the room look far from finished (they will be overboarded and the walls have now been stripped of their wallpaper):

Look at the state of this!

I’m starting to get a little downtrodden by it all to be frank. I’m currently working a stint of nights which isn’t helping my ability to cope. Thankfully the new double-glazed windows have been fitted to the bathroom and the bedrooms (although I need to repair the paintwork caused by the glazers).

Tonight is my last Orthopaedic night shift and I then have a week off. I have stupidly agreed to do two locum night shifts in ENT Tuesday and Wednesday night (which I am now regretting) but after that I should have a bit of free time. Oh wait, I need to pack up the existing flat, move and study for an exam.

Blimey.
