I’m cream-crackered.
I’ve just finished an on-call weekend and it was shattering. I get to work at 08:00 and don’t leave until at least 21:30 only to have to return the next day and repeat the cycle. Not to mention that I’ve currently worked seven days straight and don’t have a day off until Friday. I’m supposed to have the afternoon off today but I’m almost certain that won’t happen due to staffing issues…
Yesterday and Friday were almost unbearably busy. It seems to be the on-call SHO’s responsibility to sort out anything remotely Orthopaedic in the Trust (apart from requesting a porter which, apparently, I’m not allowed to do!). Saturday was much more controlled and I even had a two hour no-bleep period in the middle of the day, which was great. I’m sure that was down to the fact that the weather was so awful.
I did manage to get to theatre yesterday (I assisted with a wrist ORIF and got to do both the drilling and the K-wiring) and I assisted on Friday with a nasty debridement of a child so there was some interest in the weekend (albeit I stress the word some).
Fiona had the weekend off and has been perfecting her housewife skills (can you believe I actually came home to a roast dinner last night? So lovely!). Sadly she starts nights tonight so I won’t see her much until Friday which is why I’m so keen on taking my half day today.
Not that I’ve had a lot of free time recently (doing-up the house has been put a little bit on the back burner of late) but I’m currently working on a program to help me organise my movie/TV show library better for my cinema room. I’ll keep you posted if it ever materialises into something useful.
